Last week, my mom-in-law was admitted into hospital for bronchitis. This week, both hubs & Kate are down with fever... so its been visit after visit to different doctors.
Hubs been down the past two days. When he was finally better yesterday, it was Kate's turn. Last night Kate woke up after I changed her diaper at 4 am. She started singing, LOUDLY, while I smiled at her. Then as I hugged her, I realised that she seemed usually hot. So I measured her temperature, & yea, she was having a fever. So I brought her to the kitchen, & realised that her fever medicine has been thrown away. So no choice, no medicine for her. I proceeded to put on the cool gel thingy on her forehead - which got her kicking up a big fuss in the middle of the night! She was so loud my mom came to check on us.
Then this morning, I awoke to find her playing with the ear themometer, & reluctantly got up to bring her to see the doctor. Yikes, it cost us $70 for her meds; running nose, cough & fever. Good thing we could use the CDA to pay. Kate started crying the moment the doctor started attending to her, she thought it was jab time again! Poor kiddo's fast asleep now. I hate it when little babies & young children get fever - their fever can get so high! It's always 38 & above & then you start worrying bout their brains. A good thing I attended a talk on childhood illnesses before, which was very imformative.
Things I remembered ;
- Fever is a sign that your body is fighting the infection & yes, it usually starts with an infection
- Young children get really high fevers usually, so it's not such a biggie
- Only thing to look out for, which is really important - is the child alert? There are different sites of infection & usually the caregiver gotta observe the child. If the child is not alert - then it is reason to be worried as it could mean a brain infection which is something serious. If the child is alert though he/she is sick, it should be alright.
That's mostly all I could remember haha! That's why everytime Kate gets feverish, no matter how tired I am, I'll try to wake up to check on her. I get really paranoid bout the fever thing...
